Ormiston Victory Academy
Norwich
Ormiston Victory Academy in Norwich was procured under the National Academies Framework with Balfour Beatty. Two new buildings were designed in response to the Academy expanding from 800 to 1250 students.
The main three storey brick building contains an entrance atrium, double height dining space and central courtyard. Visitors reach the new building via a tree-lined drive that sweeps around a front lawn to a recessed entrance space with a glazed red brick elevation.
To create a rigorous and efficient layout, learning spaces on the upper floors line the north and south elevations and look out across the school’s playing fields. Staff bases are placed along the inside of the plan, overlooking the central courtyard. Practical teaching spaces are located at ground floor whilst the larger art studios and science labs are placed at the second floor with dedicated external terraces. The second, separate building accommodates a four-court sports hall with dance studio and changing areas.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such stunning premises for our students. The learning spaces are flexible and beautiful - and exactly what our students and community deserve.Naomi Palmer, Principal
Materials
A simple material palette was used that consisted predominantly of a contextual red brick with projecting bays expressed in vertical timber cladding. The internal courtyard was finished in a light render to help reflect daylight to the interior spaces.
